Chapter 9

Too often, Adrian found his mind going back to that kiss Dunn planted on him. He had something so strange happen to him, he had been in real danger, and all he could think about was that kiss. He dreamed about it, woke up thinking about it. He hoped he'd have it off his mind before the next time he saw Dunn, but there wasn't much hope of that.

Before it was time for his first class of the morning, Adrian stopped by Dunn's office and found him sitting behind his desk. "You're supposed to come carrying coffee," Dunn told him and leaned back further in his chair as he eyed Adrian coming in empty-handed.

"I already had mine," Adrian told him and tried not to think back to that adrenaline fueled kiss or how it made him feel. "Anything new?"

"I spoke to Marina," Dunn said. "She told me that her mother-in-law had suffered abuse from her second husband, and he had also driven away her son from her first marriage when he was a teenager. That was the source of the anger you experienced."

Adrian was glad Dunn had spoken to her since he had been avoiding the deli. "And did Marina's husband notice anything?"

"He doesn't like to go into his mother's room, so no."

"That's good. I haven't been back to the deli yet," Adrian admitted. "But I'll get up the courage one of these days."

"Take your time. Negative energy can linger. As far as things at Lloyd's are concerned, nothing new has happened, but I'll be going there today to confirm it for myself," Dunn said.

"So there have been no more incidents at Lloyd's but you still need to go over there?" Adrian said.

"I need to renew the wards and also have a look around in case there has been activity they haven't noticed," Dunn said but Adrian could tell he didn't like being questioned.

"Things they can't see, but you can?"

"Sense. See. In any case, I need to pay them a visit and I thought you might want to come along," Dunn said like he was issuing a challenge.

"To keep you company while you look for invisible signs of a ghost?" Adrian said, not sure why Dunn actually wanted him to come along.

"I still need adult supervision. I might run off with the valuables or make them sign up for a deluxe, premium monthly cleansing plan," Dunn said.

"If you're going when I'm free, I'll consider it," Adrian said.

"I haven't set the time yet, so you're definitely coming," Dunn said with a grin like he trapped him in his web.

If he was trapped, Adrian only had himself to blame. If he didn't want to go, he could have just said so. And it wasn't like he was trying to bother Dunn with his presence since he wasn't actually bothered. He was the one inviting Adrian.

"Why do you really want me coming along?" Adrian asked but wasn't necessarily expecting to get a straight answer from him.

"I need an anchor, someone trustworthy, dependable, who doesn't get rattled easily," Dunn said.
